24/05/2008 - Exciting Finish to the 2008 MasterCard Junior Masters

Heavy patches of rain with soft greens and changed winds saw an exciting finish to the 2008 MasterCard Junior Masters in both the boys and girls fields.

As the final group of leading boys teed off at 10.05am on Friday morning the grey clouds in the sky opened up giving testing conditions for the tournament leaders over the final 18 holes.. Tournament leader Daniel Nisbet got off to an extremely shaky start with a triple bogey on the 1st hole tightening the boys field instantly. As Nisbet dropped back to 10 under par, Victorians Macpherson and Drakeford held par to stay at 5 under.

WA local Aidan Bae made a strong push for the lead with solid golf and a few birdies but Nisbet held off the others and recovered from his opening hole with the same style he played with all week. As the crowd gathered on the back of the 18th green the rules officials were called into action with a final ruling on the 18th fairway due to flooding before all 4 boys hit up to finish their round. Nisbet finished in absolute style with a birdie on the 18th securing his junior golf domination with an 8 shot win over WA local Aidan Bae.

Round of the day went to Indian junior Rashid Khan who shot an extremely impressive 69 in the difficult conditions moving him to finish outright third above previous contender Geoff Drakeford from Victoria.

The girls field teed off ahead of the boys with much tighter scores. Tournament leader Jessica Noh from Korea started her final round 4 under par followed closely by fellow NSW resident Justine Lee on 3 under par. Jessica and Justine battled over the next 16 holes with bogey’s, pars and birdies from both staying within 2 shots of each other the whole round.

Jessica showed her endurance on the final two holes as Justine found trouble in a hazard on the 18th and finished with a double bogey while Jessica parred the hole eventually winning the tournament by 6 shots.

Congratulations to Daniel Nisbet of QLD and Jessica Noh of Korea as well as all competitors in the 2008 MasterCard Junior Masters. We look forward to seeing all of you back next year for a new era of “Junior Masters” competition in Perth.

22/05/2008 - Moving Day Tightens the Field

Strong weather has tested all competitors in the 2008 MasterCard Junior Masters with the fields tightening under the less than perfect conditions.

Tournament leader Daniel Nisbet from Queensland continues his domination in the boys field after shooting even par with his leading gap narrowed only by one shot after a 1 under par round from next best placed Bryden Macpherson from Victoria.

WA local Aidan Bae took out round of the day with an impressive 68 moving him into a tie for third on 5 under with Victorian Geoff Drakeford. Whilst Nisbet will be hard to catch with a 7 shot lead, the tournament is far from over with more wet weather headed towards The Vines Resort on Friday.

In the girls field, Jessica Noh stumbled slightly with a 2 over par 74 putting her only 1 shot in front of fellow NSW resident Justine Lee. Emma Ash from South Australia sits a further 3 shots behind on 1 under par after 3 rounds.

Friday is set to see exciting golf and scores for the finish of the fifth consecutive MasterCard Junior Masters which will see Australia’s next professional talent identified on the greens of the present talent.

21/05/2008 - Juniors Burn Up The Vines

Round 2 of the MasterCard Junior Masters has seen further displays of precision golf as the leaders take the event by the throat.

Overnight leader Daniel Nisbet from Queensland has consolidated his grip on the event firing a solid 4 under par to take his lead to 8 shots over Victorian Bryden Macpherson. Nisbet got off to a shaky start with a bogey on the first followed by a triple on the 5th only to recover with complete style with an eagle on the 6th. He turned 1 under and further cemented his domination with another eagle on the 10th.

Macpherson dropped back in the pack with a one over par today heading into the final two rounds sitting on 5 under with fellow Victorian Geoff Drakeford and Queenslander Peter Hong on his heels at 3 under par.

WA local Aidan Bae recovered from an average first round with a 69 including 3 birdies and an eagle on the back 9.

In the girls field, Jessica Noh from Korea has stolen the lead from the field with solid rounds of 68 and 70. Noh finished her round with a stunning eagle on the 18th giving her a 3 shot lead over South Australian Emma Ash. Justine Lee is the only other girl sub par after 2 rounds sitting on 1 under.

The atmosphere is set for an exciting show down over the final 2 days!

20/05/2008 - Thrilling Start to 08 Junior Masters

Round 1 of the MasterCard Junior Masters has already seen impressive scores for both the boys and the girls and some hot talent ready to compete on the greens!

WA turned on the weather for the first round of the 5th consecutive MasterCard Junior Masters providing perfect playing conditions for the 92 strong field at The Vines Resort and Country Club.

Daniel Nisbet from QLD (2007 Runner Up) has set a tough pace for the boys with a super impressive 63. He is trailed by Bryden Macpherson from VIC who shot an also impressive 66. QLD boys seem to be dominating the field with Peter Hong sitting close behind on 68 and Chris Mann also sharing 70 with Ben Campbell from New Zealand.

Not to be outdone, the girls also showed form on course with Emma Ash from SA and Jessica Noh from Korea both shooting rounds of 68. They are also being hunted down by QLD girls Katelyn Must on 69 and Hannah Kim on 70.

A fast pace has already been set so we look forward to much more exciting action over the next 3 days!

06/11/2006 - Handa Cup - First of Its Kind a Huge Success!

After a successful Pro Am joined with the Australian Blind Golf Championship on Friday 3rd November at Nedlands Golf Club, the first Handa Australia Cup got off to a flying start on Saturday morning with rain just holding out for play all day. With senior men and women playing with leading junior boys and girls, the trophy was set to land in anyone's hands with some interesting movement on the leaderboard throughout day one. Jordan Sherratt, South Australia's current state junior champion set Nedlands Golf course on fire taking a two stroke lead after day one in windy conditions posting 69 on the board for the day. Jordan was followed closely behind by veteran golfers Lyndsay Stephen, Garry Merrick and John Clifford. Rikako Morita a female amateur from Japan was also snapping at their heels with a tidy 72 posted on Saturday through difficult conditions. Day two was set to test the joining of the generations on the leaderboard. With ominous looking conditions on Sunday play continued and thankfully the rain held out with young and old battling it out to the end. Jordan Sherratt continued his shining form holding the top of the leaderboard all day at 4 under. Movement amongst the senior men continued all day with Wayne Grady shooting an amazing 67 come back from behind to finish posted at 1 over. It came down to the wire with Sherratt unfortunately making a costly triple bogey up the 17th hole dropping him back to a 1 under finish. Not to be beaten by an amateur, Garry Merrick made an impressive finish on 2 under to take out both the men's category as well as the overall Handa Australia Cup. The ladies competition also heated up over the final 18 holes with amateur Japanese Golfer Rikako Morita taking out the win by one shot over Japanese veteran Huang Yueh-Chyn. Next best place senior lady was Hall of Fame star Patty Sheehan who finished with a tidy 151 considering the conditions. Many thanks must go to the Nedlands Golf Club for hosting the first and continuing Handa Australia Cup as well as the dedicated members who gave up their weekends to assist with the running of the tournament. And of course to our Tournament Patron Mr Handa, thank you for your vision and support of golf for all generations. This tournament has set new standards in golf across the world and will continue to gain support and momentum for 2007! For complete results of the Handa Australia Cup, please visit the Events and download the scores.

19/05/2006 - 2006 MasterCard Junior Masters Draws to a Nail Biting Close

Teeing off on a sunny Perth Tuesday morning, 99 male and female juniors commenced 72 holes of stroke play on the Johnnie Walker Course at The Vines Resort and Country Club. Felicia Eastick from QLD set a fast pace for the girls early on finishing Day 1 with an impressive 66 followed closely behind by WA's Kristie Smith on 67. The WA boys also lept to the front of the field early with Nic Saraceni shooting an impressive 68 with Korean Danny An and QLD's Kevin Lee closely snapping at his heels on 69. By far though the highlight of Day 1 was a hole in one from unsuspecting Rhys Grisbrook of WA on the par 3 16th hole. As fine conditions continued on Day 2, WA continued to thrive in the field. Kristie Smith took control of the girls competition firing out an impressive 2 under par 70 to hold the lead after round 2. WA's Jason Scrivener set a high standard in the boys competition also with a remarkable 67. After being 5 over after 6 holes, Jason proceeded to play 10 birdies off 12 holes to bring him back to 5 under and snatch the lead in the boys competition. As the wind picked up slightly but the sun continued to shine, Day 3 saw some movement on the girls and boys leaderboards. Sarah Oh from NSW and Stephanie Na from SA both had 2 under par 70 in the girls field giving Stephanie Na the lead by 2 shots over Australian Amateur Champion Sarah Oh. Not to be outdone by the home contenders, Daniel Nisbet of QLD jumped to the lead after round 3 in the boys field scoring an impressive third round score of 66 followed closely behind by Danny An of Korea on 67 trailing in total by one shot. As the wind picked up for the final round of competition and the Johnnie Walker Final Round pin placements were put out for the 99 competitors, a nail biting finish ensued. Twice runner up Sarah Oh kept a cool head finishing with 70 in round 4 to win the competition by 5 shots over Stephanie Na from SA and Ashleigh Simon from South Africa. The boys competition however had a closer finish with Danny An, Kevin Lee and Daniel Nisbet all tied on 5 under down the 72nd hole of competition. Some unfortunate shots into the green left Kevin Lee the only player putting for par and finally taking out the 2006 MasterCard Junior Masters. Congratulations to Sarah Oh of NSW and Kevin Lee of QLD for their outstanding achievement in winning the boys and girls 2006 MasterCard Junior Masters. Sarah wins an invitation to play in the 2007 ANZ Ladies Masters while Kevin will go up against the best at the 2006 MasterCard Masters at Huntingdale in November. Good luck to you both and well done to all 99 competitors on some outstanding golf!
